Dairy and your Mouth

Many of us make sure we consume dairy on a daily basis due to the health benefits as well as for our bones, but did you know consuming dairy is also good for your teeth? Clinical studies have shown that pH levels in the mouth have increased from eating cheese , milk and yogurt products. This is especially important because it decreases your chances of tooth erosion (the protective layer of the tooth) as well as helps fight tooth decay protecting you from getting cavities! Those who consumed cheese showed a rapid increase in pH levels suggesting that cheese may have anti-cavity properties. Studies indicated that the act of chewing the cheese helped increase saliva production thus increasing the pH levels in the mouth. Cheese seems to have various compounds that adhere to tooth enamel helping to protect them from acid. It looks like dairy not only does a body good but it does the mouth good to!
