Surrounded By Sugar

Today we live in a fast pace, high stress world. For most of us on the run, we rely on fast food and sugary snacks to keep us nourished. Unfortunately this kind of diet can be very harmful to our oral health as well as our body’s overall health. Consuming to much sugarcan lead to decayed teeth as well as gum disease. A staggering 25 percent of childrenbetween the ages of 2 and 5 have been diagnosed with tooth decay, and almost 80 percent of young people will have had a cavity by age 17. Many of us like to drink soda, but did you know that an average 12-ounce can contains 10 teaspoons of sugar. Many manufactures purposely add sugar to their food to help ensure a return purchase. The average person today consumes approximately 150 pounds of sugar a year, or about 40 teaspoons a day. It is very important we read the labels on what we are consuming and try to maintain a well balanced diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables. This along with routine visits to the dentist will help ensure a healthy mouth as well as a healthy body.
